Integrated farming systems have become one of the promising areas of agricultural development, increasing farm productiveness and profitability. Over the years, the issues of land fragmentation, climate change, rising input costs, and volatile prices have necessitated the need for farmers to adopt multiple cropping agricultural systems that are more profitable. Integrated livestock systems have been characterized by combined farm enterprises where interactions between elements take place, resulting in the synergistic use of resources and recycling. Integrated livestock systems offer tremendous potential for recycling farm nutrients, conserving resources, and sustaining farm income. This paper discusses the concept, importance, components, economic and environmental benefits, and role in climate resilience and food security of diversification into integrated livestock systems with reference to the available literature.
